ABOUT HEAT PUMPS / GEOTHERMAL
Heat pumps provide both heating and cooling options, allowing you to be more flexible and versatile with your system’s functionality.
In response to the growing demand for energy-efficient systems, Technocon Engineering proudly offers a complete range of air-to-water and water-to-water heat pumps, utilizing the most energy-efficient technology available.
Geothermal heat pumps use the earth’s constant temperature as a heat exchange medium. While many regions experience extreme seasonal temperatures—ranging from scorching summers to freezing winters—the soil just a few meters below the surface maintains a relatively constant temperature.

A geothermal heat pump is capable of heating, cooling, and, if equipped, supplying homes and buildings with hot water. A geothermal heat pump system consists of a heat pump, an air distribution system (ductwork), and a heat exchanger – a system of pipes buried in the ground (closed system) or two open-loop boreholes (open system). During winter, the heat pump extracts heat from the heat exchanger and pumps it into the indoor air delivery system. In summer, the process is reversed, and the heat pump transfers heat from the indoor air to the heat exchanger. Additionally, since it is part of an energy-efficient heating system, the heat removed from the indoor air during summer can be used to provide a free source of hot water.
Like any heat pump, geothermal heat pumps can heat, cool, and supply hot water to a house. Some geothermal system models come with two-speed compressors and variable-speed fans for increased comfort and greater energy savings. Compared to air-source heat pumps, they are quieter, more durable, and require less maintenance.
A dual-source heat pump combines an air-source heat pump with a geothermal heat pump. These units bring together the best features of both systems. Dual-source heat pumps are more efficient than air-source units but not as efficient as geothermal ones. Their main advantage is that they cost less to install while performing nearly as well as geothermal units.
Geothermal heat pumps can operate in any climate—hot or cold—due to the earth’s constant underground temperature (ranging from 7°C to 24°C, depending on the location). Around the world, these energy-efficient heating systems are much more developed than in Romania, as people have realized that, although the initial investment is higher, the money is recovered relatively quickly, within approximately 5-10 years. The system’s lifespan is estimated at 25 years for internal components and 50 years for underground components.
